Rainbow Shoelace Project
Coming Soon • Thu, 27 Feb 2025, 4:00pm
The Rainbow Shoelace Project is a meaningful way to show support for the LGBTIQ+ community by wearing Pride-colored beads on your shoelaces.
The idea was created by 12-year-old Abbie Jane and her friend Max Dawnn in their hometown of Broken Hill. Abbie came up with the concept after feeling scared about wearing Pride flag-colored beads to school, worried she might be bullied. She realized that many other queer kids might feel the same way and wanted to create a symbol that would help them feel supported and not alone.
The project quickly grew, encouraging both LGBTIQ+ individuals and their allies to wear the beads as a sign of solidarity and acceptance. It's a simple yet powerful way to spread love, promote inclusion, and raise awareness. By participating, people can send a message of support to those who need it most, showing that they are not alone in their journey.
Show your support by adding rainbow beads to you sneakers at our Shoe Bedazzle station Thursday night or by collecting your beads from the Minis Zone on Saturday and Sunday between 10am – 1pm.
